Quality Manager / Inspector - Client Side ASAP

- Senior-level role requiring 10 to 20+ years’ building construction experience
Our client is delivering a significant capital works programme on landmark projects. To support this programme, they are seeking a highly experienced Building Quality Manager / Inspector to ensure construction works are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
Acting as the on-site representative, the role plays a critical role in safeguarding project integrity, minimising defects, and ensuring value for money through rigorous inspection, monitoring and reporting. The role oversees multiple concurrent projects through to completion.
This position requires deep technical expertise in building construction, regulatory compliance, WHS and quality assurance, supported by an accredited/licensed building trade qualification and a minimum of 10 to 20 years’ relevant industry experience.
The BQI holds the authority to stop works in response to health or safety concerns, challenge deviations from approved documentation or quality standards, and escalate unresolved issues to the Project Director. The role provides non-directive professional advice but does not issue instructions to contractors.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Site Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Conducting daily inspections to verify compliance with design specifications, engineering drawings and quality standards
- Monitoring workmanship and material quality, identifying deviations or substandard practices
- Taking measurements and samples to confirm compliance prior to installation
- Ensuring construction methods align with industry best practice
- Reviewing contractor Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and quality methodologies prior to construction
- Verifying adherence to building codes, statutory regulations and University policies
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of applicable legislation and ensuring on-site compliance
- Identifying and reporting non-compliance to the Project Director
- Promoting and reinforcing a strong WHS culture
- Conducting safety inspections to identify hazards, unsafe practices or non-compliant equipment
- Exercising authority to halt work where serious safety concerns arise
- Working collaboratively with contractors to implement corrective and preventative actions
- Detecting and documenting defects and poor workmanship early to prevent rework and delays
- Recommending corrective actions or alternative methods to mitigate risk
- Monitoring defect rectification and verifying long-term quality outcomes
- Maintaining accurate daily records of inspections, site activities, issues and corrective actions
- Providing clear and timely updates to the Project Director
- Capturing photographic evidence and maintaining comprehensive inspection logs
- Supporting audit, assurance and reporting requirements
- Building productive working relationships with contractors, subcontractors and stakeholders
- Participating in planning and coordination meetings
- Providing professional, non-directive advice to support contractor performance and project success
- Reviewing and interpreting drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- Assessing alignment between construction activities and intended design outcomes
- Identifying documentation discrepancies and escalating for resolution
- Reviewing contractors’ three-week look-ahead programmes to prepare for inspections
- Anticipating risks associated with upcoming works and advising the Project Delivery team
- Coordinating inspection activities with key construction milestones
- Accredited/licensed building trade qualification
- Minimum 10 to 20 years’ experience in building construction, quality assurance and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated experience in site inspection, defect identification and construction oversight
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and QA processes
- High-level observational, analytical and reporting capability
- Proven ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications
- Sound understanding of WHS legislation and safe work practices
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Impartial judgement and commitment to integrity and safety
