Planning & Reliability Superintendent – FIFO | Bowen Basin Coal Operation
Are you a hands-on leader ready to take ownership of planning and reliability at a technically advanced open-cut coal mine?
We’re seeking an experienced Planning & Reliability Superintendent for a major mining operation in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. This FIFO leadership role (ex-Brisbane or Townsville) will see you take charge of the planning and reliability function across one of Australia’s largest and most modern mining fleets.
The operation runs a high-capacity fleet, including:
  • 10 large excavators
  • 25 ancillary machines (dozers, graders, loaders)
  • Over 60 ultra-class haul trucks, primarily electric-drive CAT 796s
This is a high-pressure environment, with strong client focus on asset availability. Your ability to lead under pressure, manage competing priorities, and drive performance through systems and people will be key to success.
You’ll lead a skilled and capable team, including:
  • Senior Reliability Engineer
  • Planner/Schedulers (3 x back-to-back)
  • Compliance Coordinators (1 x back-to-back)
  • Ancillary Plant Planner
Together, this team is responsible for delivering planning excellence, equipment reliability, statutory compliance, and continuous improvement across the fleet.
Your role will involve:
  • Overseeing short- and long-term maintenance planning activities
  • Leading reliability initiatives, failure investigations, and oil sample analysis
  • Managing component lifecycle strategies, service schedules, and upgrade projects
  • Working closely with Maintenance Superintendents to reprioritise tasks and manage breakdown response
  • Controlling costs, tracking parts usage and returns, and ensuring cost-effective asset management
  • Driving a strong safety-first culture and ensuring alignment with SHMS, policies, and client requirements
To be considered, you’ll need:
  • Trade certificate in Plant Mechanics or a relevant Engineering qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar reliability or planning leadership role within mining
  • Strong understanding of reliability principles, planning systems, and condition monitoring
  • Proven leadership and mentoring ability in high-performance teams
  • The ability to collaborate effectively under pressure and deliver on availability expectations
Mandatory requirements include:
  • QLD Coal Board Medical
  • Standard 11
  • G1, G8, G9 and G2 (RIIRIS402D)
  • Senior First Aid (HLTAID003)
  • Operate Light Vehicle (RIIVEH201D)
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a client approval interview and drug & alcohol screening
This is your chance to lead a respected team on a progressive site with cutting-edge equipment. You’ll join a business that values operational discipline, supports career growth, and backs its leaders to make a real impact.
Apply now to step into a role where your leadership will drive real results.
