Senior Design Manager - Client Side - Renewable Energy Transmission

Driving the design and engineering for key components of NSW's energy transformation, including substations, network upgrades, shaping major infrastructure outcomes.

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Design Manager to oversee design and engineering on some of Australia’s most significant renewable energy and infrastructure projects. This includes work on landmark schemes, substation development, and transmission upgrades.

You will manage the end-to-end design process across substations, civil, and transmission line components. You will liaise with technical advisors, contractors, and consortium partners to ensure all designs meet project and statutory requirements and that non-conformances are proactively resolved.

This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on technical design coordination and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute directly to NSW's renewable energy future.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Manage all design deliverables in accordance with Project Deed and Technical Requirements
• Oversee review processes alongside Technical Advisors and Independent Certifier
• Ensure substation designs comply with WHS management plans and statutory requirements
• Coordinate design integration across all disciplines – substation, civil, transmission, delivery
• Support planning, property, and construction teams by resolving design conflicts
• Align all designs with environmental approvals and regulatory compliance
• Ensure program adherence and property access synchronisation
• Maintain governance, reporting, risk, and probity standards

Qualifications and Requirements:
Essential:
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in infrastructure design and management
• Strong background in Transmission and energy projects (min. 330kV)
• Proven track record in delivering major infrastructure programs
Desirable:
• Experience in 500kV transmission design and delivery
• Ideally project exposure valued at over $1B
• Familiarity with PPP contract models
• Delivery of regulated assets and greenfield energy infrastructure
• Government sector experience and understanding of legal/regulatory framework
• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, construction management or related field

• Results-driven with continuous improvement mindset
• Proficient in design management software and reporting tools
