Project Manager - Defence

Our client is a leader in providing services to the maritime, military and resource sectors. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced Project Manager - Defence to join their professional team based in Port Macquarie, NSW.

The business has experienced significant growth over the last decade and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to join the team for future growth opportunities.

The Defence Division builds a wide variety of vessels and other vehicular assets and is regarded as one of Australia’s leading yards for construction, repair and refit.

You will be responsible to oversee and deliver Defence projects, lead the projects team, client liaison, project planning, managing risk and subcontractors and business development. You will also be involved in the front-end tender processes of the business.

Experience in delivering complex high value projects in the marine industry is desirable ideally for Defence or government clients. Ideally experience in contract management for Defence projects $50m - $100m+, including having ASDEFCON experience delivering a serial build program.

Years of experience:
Ideally 10 years+

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• The safe and successful delivery of construction/manufacturing projects with the available resources and within the constraints of quality, time, cost and performance.
• Providing effective and strong leadership for projects so as to ensure achievement of project outcomes maximising benefits to our Client and their Customers.
• Customer engagement and satisfaction to ensure repeat business.
• Full project planning, detailed scheduling, control and monitoring for work scope, budgets and schedules and overseeing the performance of project tasks for our Client and its subcontractors and suppliers.
• Planning and coordination of project labour and resources
• Weekly reporting
• Monitoring changes to designs, assessing effects on cost, and measuring. Valuing and negotiating variations to design
• Be familiar with contract requirements and deliverables to ensure commitments are met
• Risk control and management
• Monitor processes to remove/reduce risks of environmental harm or nuisance
• Maintain positive relationships and liaise with senior management, stakeholders, subcontractors and project teams

 Skills & Experience:

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management or similar discipline
• Extensive Defence experience ideally 10years +
• Previous Contract management and Quality, Cost & Schedule experience on Defence projects including ASDEFCON experience
• Exceptional communication skills
• Highly articulate with excellent attention to detail
• Experience leading and managing a large team
• A high level of organisational and time management skills
• Advance Computer skills using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with scheduling tools such as Open Plan Professional, Microsoft Project, Primavera or similar
• Ability to obtain Baseline security clearance
